Cat
By: Catriona

Sleeping heavenly
The cat lies still
Eyes clinched closed
Paws up
Rests little head
In the gentle pillow
Creamy, brown, fluff
Small ears
So little
Face up
Won’t open eyes
Until he feels it is right
Comfortable
Laying
In the furry thin skin

Puppy

By Pavneet

Indoors
The puppy starts to run
Then jumps
Ears up
Comes forward energetically
Jumps
With no paws on the ground
Midnight colored eyes look straight forward
Little chocolate colored nose
Wiggles
Cloud colored fluffy fur
Moves in the air
Little dark dots
On its toes
Running
Then jumping
Freely

wolf.jpg
Wolf
by Ann
In the soft white snow,
A wolf waits,
With his big eyes,
starring blankly;
His black little nose,
stays still,
sniffing the air,
waiting there;
His beautiful gray fur,
sticking out,
getting ready,
but still waiting;
Then the front leg rises,
As quick as lightning,
Jumps out,
To catch his prey;
No more waiting. . .

crocodile.jpg
Crocodile
by Jibran
On the bank of a river
a crocodile awaits.
Its mouth slowly opens,
eyes wide and large.
Snout facing strait foward;
protected in a
wildlife park.
It waits to be fed.
Teeth sharp and pointed.
Scales gleaming in the sun.
As green as grass.
It wants it's meal.
Water behind it, it can snap it's jaw.
Large, green and scaly.
It waits to be fed.

puma.jpg
Puma
by Sulaiman
In the clearing
The puma stands
scans the area
pounces, runs
goes for miles
moving gracefully
stops, lays down
resting, but alert
scans the horizon
once more
runs into the dark
goes for miles
stops, finally rests
for hours and hours
golden fur
shines in the light
his whiskers cover
his mouth
his dark eyes
are closed for
the nights sleep

squirrel.jpg
Squirrel
by Jason
Nibbling an acorn
so little at a time
standing in leaves
sitting there so peacefully
hoping not to be disturbed
standing in someone's backyard
like it is his property
so tiny and furry
like squirrels should be.

frog.jpg
FROG
by Bryan
In a forest
that frog waiting for more food
still chasing it
still catching insects
with its tongue
living on a leaf.
Ribbiting loudly
Sleeping on the leaf.
So, so quiet.
Too hard to be seen.
Nowhere to be found.

Animal Poems by DreamExtreme Students - Medford, Oregon

Dancing Dolphins
By Cassidy
Dancing Dolphins,
here, chattering and waving
their tail fins.
Bobbing their graceful
heads up and down.
Dancing gracefully in the
deep blue sea.

The Monkey
By Student
In the jungle
there’s a monkey
swinging from the
vines.
Smiling, eating its
banana, while
it plays with its
brothers and sisters
As happy as he
can be. And when
the day is done
going home to sleep
for the night.

Snake
By Eric
Snake slithers through
the rainforest.
Leaves rustling when
the snake slithers
by its prey.
Stalking the prey.
Then it strikes the
prey with great powerful
venom.
So radiant. So
smooth, hanging from
trees.
Basking
in the
HOT
tropical
sun.

The Chimp
By Justin
A chimp
sitting on
a tree.
His hands clinging
onto the
tree.
His smile
so big
with happiness.
He sees a bug
on the tree,
grabs it and
puts it in his
mouth.
A good night
snack.

Phantom
By Haley
Phantom, as they call her.
A sweet smell of myrrh
Never-ending fluff
White as snow
Eyes like black almonds
Only much more shimmery.
No one has yet touched her
So quick
So small
But still so delicate.
She spies a mouse in the distance
She crouches down
Ready to pounce
Tail slightly poofed
BOOM!!!
She leaps into the air
And lands on the mouse, perfectly.
Suddenly,
her head jolts up.
Mouse still hanging in her mouth.
Must’ve heard a noise.
Then,
she disappears.
Maybe she really is
a Phantom.

Horse
By Benny
The black horse is
running
through the
wind,
living its freedom.
Racing the eagle,
soaring
faster and
faster.

Cougar
By Evan
A cougar on the
riverside
looking at the
water
with his paw in
the air.
As still as a
statue.
BAM!
He swipes the
water
with great
force.
Catching a fish
with his paw.
He runs back to
his family with
the fish in
his mouth,
to eat and go to
sleep

Viperfish
by Dominik
Viperfish live
in the deep dark sea.
So strange and so
mysterious.
There is more to know
about them still.
More can be
discovered.
sleep for the night.

Rabbit
By Matthew
There!
Under a blackberry bush
A rabbit lay peaceful in rest
Opening its eyes
in the early summer sun.
Leaves lying on its
little head
Thistles of the
bush avoiding the
little fur ball so
soft and cuddly
by the looks of it,
He stretches like a
fat cat would after
a long warm nap
by the fire.
Then,
he feels tired
and drops his
little head for
another nap so peaceful like
before.

Orangutan
By Bryce
Early in the morning,
swinging and hopping
in the jungle
with it’s black
charcoal eyes
gleaming in the sunlight.
Wet from the morning dew,
hunting for food in the
mysterious darkness.
The Orangutan swings
through the forest.

Dog
By Ben
The dog sits there
so lazy and sleepy
with her eyes
drooping
being scratched by her
owner
with her ball in her
mouth
looking out in the
forest
her eyes finally
close,
just snoozing away
without a care in the
world.

Animal Poems By Ms. White's Class in Virginia
Rabbit
By Stuart
Under a rose bush
The rabbit stares
Stretches his legs
Nose nibbles
Relaxes soft ears
Carefully over
A fury back
Twitches blinks
Chews with tiny
Teeth at a near leaf
Sniffs flops
On his back
Yawns closes
His eyes
In his little rose bush

Snake
By Wiley

Beneath a grove of elaves
A snake readies for attack;
Smells the air with its tongue
hisses, lowers its head to
the ground carefully
in between the piles of leaves.
Springs up with alert bites of
Venomous fangs at its prey
Hisses and slithers into a spot of sun
Sighs, closes
its eyes: sleeps
all afternoon
in a new skin.

Gecko
By Adriana

On a big rock
the gecko sits still
Lifting his head,
Spots, Stripes,
Running to get prey
carefully getting closer
grass blades;
stares right, aleert;
sneaks up the hill,
blinks, licks,
In the junk yard,
hides, glares
his eyes: close
all night
in a beer bottle.

Frog
By:Luke

On a Lilly pad
a frog jumps
to and fro
croaks a song
and swims
under water
then drifts
onto land and
eats a fly
then croaks again
until night.

Cat
By: Sarah
Under the shining stars
The cat pranced between the stars
Walking casually on the porch
Mouth, hairball
Dangling carefully
Along the
Rim of the porch
Looks up admiring the stars
Wishing she could be one
Blinks and slowly closes her eyes
Sighs, thinks about stars
La, La, La (Dream time!)

Buzzard

By: Wiley

Above a telephone pole
A buzzard watches a dying animal
Sniffs the air with it’s
Beak, shrieks
Lowers its head to the ground
Watching its prey
Carefully in between the trees
Dives down in delight
Eats with a sharp beak
Finishes and flys up to its nest sighs closes
Its eyes: sleeps
For hours
With a full stomach
